Mariel León Pimentel is the founding partner of DCLAW | Dominican Center for Legal Assistance, a Dominican firm advising on legal, corporate, compliance, and governance matters.
A lawyer with more than twenty years in Corporate Law and International Legal Practice, she has concentrated her recent work on Corporate Governance and Compliance. Her career pairs legal practice with senior management: she has held executive, operations, and legal leadership roles, leading multidisciplinary teams in national and international organizations. She has a particular connection with the nonprofit sector, where she has advised governing bodies and served as Executive Director of an international organization in the Dominican Republic, with strategic planning, sustainability, and relations with the authorities under her responsibility.
That dual experience defines the way she works. To her mind, corporate governance is not only a matter of designing bodies, regulations, or policies: it is a matter of getting the information there in time, making sure the deliberation considers what it should, and recording decisions so that they hold up afterward. Doing so requires coordinating across functions without commanding any of them, the same skill exercised from a board and from an operations directorate.
She holds a Doctorate in Law, magna cum laude, from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) and a Master of Laws in International Legal Practice from IE Law School. She holds the international Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional–International credential from the Compliance Certification Board and the Certified Corporate Governance Institute Professional designation, awarded with distinction through The Corporate Governance Institute and Duke Corporate Education. She has also completed the professional programs The Company Secretary and AI Governance, executive education in Corporate Governance at The Wharton School, and specialized study in Sustainability and Risk, Family Business Consulting, Operations Management, and Legal Department Management.
She is a certified English Judicial Interpreter appointed by the Judiciary Council of the Dominican Republic and has taught at undergraduate and graduate level at Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra.
She writes regularly on Ethics, Governance, and Compliance and is the author of La Última Finca, a book on Family Business Governance, pending publication.
